Pink eyes, time out, and 29 weeks

Don't come around these parts. We've got pink eyes over here. Of the conjunctivitis kind. It's so pitiful and awful and she's wearing me flat out. It never fails that when we go to the doctor, LO will have her big event of the day. And today history proved itself true again. Unfortunately, we went straight from school, sans any extra diapers. So there we are, in that ventless, windowless room, with a really REALLY bad diaper. God bless those nurses. They helped me out and dug up a size 4- slightly smaller than needed but beggars can't be choosers. And because it was so awful, and we had only the open garbage can to put it in, I located a rubber glove to hold said diaper and tie off the odor. It was awesome. Really. One of my finer moments.

Little One has gained some experience in the Time-Out chair at "school." We don't do time out at home, so this was an area of utmost curiosity for our girl. I'll be honest- sweet thing has turned into a bit of a bully. She's now proud to say how well versed she is with the time out chair. In fact, she loves to confess that she had to go. We have a daily "did you go to time out today?" conversation.

LOML: Did you go to time out today?
LO: I did.
LOML: What did you do?
LO: Well, I just punched Jacob in the forehead until he cried.

And even more recently:
me: Did you have to go to time out today?
LO: Yes ma'am
me: Well, what did you do?
LO: I just powdered Michael.
me: You did what?
LO: Yeah! I just put powder on his head and his feet and his legs and his hands. And grandma had to vacuum.

Disciplining for these issues is tricky. She's already been disciplined by the time I pick her up. Some days my heart aches because I'm not the one to do the disciplining. Instead, I have spent my day teaching someone else's child. And that is a hard truth. But when I hear LO telling her doll, "I'm sorry you made that choice." and, "You must be respectful to me, baby." or, "I am going to show you grace," it is then that I know she is listening. Her little heart is trying to understand.

In other news....I am 29 weeks pregnant today. The babycenter email I got this morning read, "Now your baby will begin growing rapidly." I laughed out loud. I would swear this baby has been growing 'rapidly' since we knew she was in there. She's ahead of the growth curve and the pants I wore yesterday don't fit today. It is a beautiful reminder of God's grace in my life. His good and perfect blessing, growing bigger by the minute.

So funny...we had a very similar time out conversation today. Will is equally willing to fess up to his wrongdoing. Today, he took a car from his friend. He even re-enacted it for me when we got home and then said, "But its okay mama, I told him I was sorry." :) This age makes me SMILE!!

Oh my word, I can't stop laughing. I have tears streaming down my face. I get where she is coming from. Sometimes I just want to powder people.

I am cracking up!! I totally relate to EVERYTHING here. It's hard to teach someone else's child all day and know that your own is being taught and disciplined by someone else. I love the honesty of 'punching Jacob in the face.' Ahh, life with a two year old... new adventures every day. :)

I totally feel your diaper pain. My girl got so upset at the doctor once that she threw up all over both of us. After I striped her down, I just handed her to the doctor because I had to walk so far back to my car in the hospital parking deck to dig out new clothes, which the doctor totally took in stride. I came back and the doctor and she were happily hanging out talking to other patients. There is no telling what will happen at the pediatrician.

Ugh. I'm with you on the struggling to allow someone else to discipline your child. It is so, so hard. But I do enjoy the innocent way they confess their crimes. Reese told me recently that he had to sit in time out because he was making tooting noises at nap time. When i told him that it wasn't nice to make those noises, especially when his friends were trying to rest, he said, "But Mama, tooting noises are SO funny." Sigh.

found your blog at "work" today. So hilarious, katie. Maybe she learned the bullying from an unnamed co-nursery buddy?
