A Botanic Garden Adventure

We spent some time adventuring last weekend. It was delightful. I don't know who enjoyed it most: me, Love of My Life, or Little One. There was much exploring to do. Many things to take in.

Although I didn't snap many pics, this clever gardener had incorporated a kitchen, bedroom, and bath into his garden...there were iron headboards and footboards with plants growing in the middle as the mattress and linens. There were chairs and a table with a tea party set- all created out of living moss. We saw a kitchen with an herb garden growing right inside. It was so clever.

And the pathways lead you past all kinds of magical lands, with swings and trees and ponds. There are little one room houses created by different local artists, each with it's own theme. A school-ish room to do important research, a music room, a fairy house, a laundry nook.

Little One especially loved the music she could make with a xylophone created out of wrenches. And she was quite interested in the way you could do laundry outside with a washboard and basin, hanging the clothes on the line to dry. My imagination was exploding!

And then we came to some secret worm tunnels. And the most awesome tree house you've ever seen. The larger-than-life dog and his house was a real hit, too.

To use Sally Clarkson's words from her book The Mission of Motherhood, as mothers, we are a gardener of souls, responsible for cultivating and enriching our children's lives. Getting outside and exploring and teaching and wondering are all part of that enrichment. How fortunate I am to have many places of such adventure right at my fingertips! I just hope that through such fun, I can cultivate a love for our Heavenly Father and his creation in Little One. "Blessed are the children whose mothers garden in the soil of their souls."
