Anyway, Little One somehow is highly allergic to bug bites. The nurse that I spoke with has assured me that this is normal "for LO's age." Maybe she'll grow out of it? Who knows. We spent a little time yesterday evening playing outside. I did not coat her in bugspray as I might should have. Not 5 minutes after coming in, this is what I saw:
I then got dinner ready and to encourage the consupmtion of more vegetables, I gave LO a small dish of Toasted Sesame Asian salad dressing in which to dip her broccoli. Man, did she love it or what? She forgot all about that big ole bug bite on her eyelid.
I was scurrying around the kitchen, folding laundry, wiping down counters, etc, when I noticed a little redness beginning to break out on Little One's face. It turned into a full blown reaction (to the dressing). LOML was still at work and I calmly wiped her face, administered a dose of Benadryl, and listened to her breathing. Luckily, she only was red where the dressing had touched her face, free of any welts, and breathing just fine. Bless her heart- as much as she enjoyed every last drop of that total deliciousness, she'll never touch the stuff again.
As you can see, she was acting as sweet as ever. The redness disappeared after about two hours. But today, poor girl looks like she got a good shiner. Darn skeeter bite.
What's a mama to do, but love on my sweet girl and pray that no one calls child protective services on me. I have a feeling we'll be just fine.

Poor little punkin'!
There's a kid at L's preschool who is supposedly allergic to bug bites (whatever that means- I've never heard of an actual allergy test for them, but he obviously has major reactions like LO). His parents clip one of those OFF clips on his pants and he always wears it on the playground, etc. That way, he doesn't have to be doused in spray all the time. No idea if it works, but it's an option to try!
Oh my gosh - how scary. But funny that she liked it so much! :)
I'm going to condense my comments into this one post, although some may pertain to your prior entries! First, Reese is also on a chicken strike and has been for over four months. He will only eat chicken if it is enclosed in a cheese quesadilla. Two, I share your exhaustion. What is it about summer that makes us forget how tiring it is to be a working mama? And finally, Reese has ridiculously sensitive skin. In fact, yesterday at school the overspray from another child's sunscreen got on his face and he swelled up like a balloon. We have had great success with Cortisone 10 with aloe. It works on bug bites too! Hope you have a restful weekend!
Poor girl! I can't believe the reaction to the dressing-you were right, it's only where it touched her face!
Oh, and I forgot to mention- L used to do this on his face when he ate (or smeared on his face) something with tomatoes in it. His ped said that citrus intollerance is common for little ones. So, it's very possible that'll go away too. :-)
Love you!
Ouch! And thanks for your response to my camera question!
my son has that reaction to ranch dressing. I still let him eat it. (insert bad mother here). His only last about 5 mins. it has gotten better the older he gets. he dips everything in ranch. ha!
Poor LO!!! If it makes you feel any better, I am still overly sensitive to mosquito bites. If I don't use bug spray, they attack with a vengence (people usually say because I'm so sweet - ha!) and they are HUGE within about 3 seconds. The same thing happens to ML, and I always attributed it to being hereditary, but if it is just their age, maybe she'll outgrow it. I, on the other hand, am pretty sure it's not gonna go away now. Aside from the extreme heat, it's the only unfortunate thing I can complain about during the summer! I'm glad the dressing reaction wasn't any worse! You're a good mama to keep your head!
I can't much blame her...that dressing is my ABSOLUTE favorite! Poor baby!
What a cute little face, bug bite and all. My little one outgrew her soy and wheat allergies in the last six months. Hopefully, your little one outgrows hers too!
My daughter is the same way with bug bites. Also, my daughter had a reaction like that on her face once while eating fish sticks and ranch, which she had ate several times before and since then and never has had a problem again. I have heard it can take several times of eating something to build up a tolerance and I have also heard the same thing for developing a allergic reaction.
