Each year, our street hosts a gigantic 4th of July parade. This was the 61st year this parade has marched past our doorstep! People decorate their homes, their bikes, their cars. Flags are placed at every driveway. It's very American. When LOML and I moved into the neighborhood 5 years ago, it was only in the back of my mind that OUR child would be a part of this great tradition. And here we are, decorating Little One's car and walking in the parade along with hundreds of Americans!
Things got kicked off Friday night at the Hot Dog Cookout. Neighbors joined together, drank some beer, ate some dogs, and watched the kiddos run through sprinklers and fly down water slides. Lucky for us, two officers and their horses came to enjoy the fun as well.
My dear mother (Bobo) headed our way on Friday night to enjoy the festivities as well. Saturday morning rolled around and after a MAJOR temper tantrum, rolling on the floor, arms flailing meltdown, we hopped in the "car" and cruised down the street to line up for the parade. Check out LO's ride. She helped with the decor. It was hot. It was lovely. It was so very patriotic. Call me silly, but I got teary when we sang the national anthem. The fire department came and cooled the crowd with a big spray. And within an hour of starting, the street was deserted, only a few glittery stars and forgotten streamers remained. Until next year...
Happy fourth, everybody!
