this might be a little boring...as i've run out of things to post about. just a forewarning.
what is it about men and american gladiators? tonight, we were watching 60 minutes, and then immediately following it was this horrific show. apparently LOML loved watching it as a child and was reliving some wonderful (?) childhood memories by indulging in this distasteful waste of time. i sat there and watched him watch the tv. i laughed at how into it he was! and i was struck with memories of a few other funny tv watching moments from our marriage:
pbs, sunday mornings, bob the builder- LOML LOVES to watch this (i promise, he is a grown man, 27 next month). there was one sunday in which he was watching bob in the den, which is right off the kitchen. i was whipping up something for breakfast and was listening in on Love of My Life commentating with the show. he was actually verbally speaking to bob...out loud...disagreeing with some building decision bob had made. i couldn't believe my ears. you must understand that building is ingrained in LOML's brain. he was born with a drill in his hand and his profession continues the tradition. this has come in very handy with home ownership. even if it does mean that he watched this cartoon that the three year olds across the hall at school enjoy.
there was one day in which LOML was at home while i was at work. this doesn't happen very frequently, as it's normally the teacher with days off while he's working. regardless, i came home around 4:30 this particular afternoon to find this: hr was laid out on the couch, watching oprah, and reading a people magazine. as i type this, i realize that maybe it was only funny at the time...but it was stinkin hilarious. it seemed like total role reversal! (not that i watch oprah and read magazines in the hour between me arriving home and him arriving home...well, at least not everyday...)
on another note (this would be the "beyond" part of my title), we had a very fruitful weekend. we've been working on the backyard a little at a time. although The Love of My Life woke up the entire neighborhood by running a jackhammer early saturday morning, got a concrete truck stuck in our backyard (the trenches are at least two feet deep, maybe more), and made it even more redneck by dumping the broken concrete in the middle of what little grass there is, we have our dog kennel good and ready for those eight little feet. no more muddy paws and holes to china. nosiree, those days are over. i can almost picture what it will look like when we get rid of all the unnecessary concrete, lay some sod, and plant some shrubs. i'll post some pictures whenever i get around to taking some!
