Curious

So I had a little incident recently that required me to rip off my shirt and expose myself to Little One. Without further humiliating myself, I must tell you that truly, truly I had no other option. This particular exposure brought forth some innocent yet very perceptive questions from our two year old that I just can't quit laughing about.

Our conversation went a little like this:
LO: Mama! Whaz doze?
me: Those are mama's bosoms (as I conceal myself with my arms)
LO: Well, can I see dem?
me: No, sweetheart. We don't show anyone our bosoms. They are a private part of our body that we keep covered.
Conversation ended. Awkward, yes, but could have been far worse.

Two days later, I am discreetly changing clothes, Little One sitting on the bench at the end of our bed.
LO: Mama? (cocking her head to the side) Can I see doze bosoms adain?
me: No, darling. Remember, we keep bosoms covered and don't share that part of our body with others.
LO: (clearly disappointed but pondering) Well, (pause) what dey for?
me: Uh, well, om, see, God gives mamas bosoms to feed their babies. (at this point, I'm near death with stifled laughter and LO is near death with realization of what I'm saying)
LO: (eyes as big as saucers) To FEED da babies??
me: Yes, sweetheart, to feed the babies.

I believe we are doomed when bebe girl gets here. DOOMED. Oh, lactation. At least we don't have to worry with boy anatomy questions, right?

If it makes you feel any better, I used to walk around "breath" feeding my baby dolls, and neither I nor my brother were breastfed. Mom never has figured out where I got that one. ;-)

I'm cracking up. We've had some similar questions at our house as well. We also had a "funny" conversation with my 4-year-old nephew as he followed Hannie to the potty one day. Little one's are quite observant, aren't they? :) Hope you're feeling okay!

Haha! We've been fielding lots of those sorts of questions lately, too.

So cute and funny! C fed all her babies that way for a long time after H came home. I'm fully expecting a repeat of that behavior X2 in a couple of weeks!

She is totally going to sit with you and breast feed her baby dolls. And mimic you. And make the same faces, particularly the painful ones, when it hurts so much in the beginning again. But all that will be better than her crawling all over you and the new baby while you try to feed him, which is what she would probably rather be doing anyway!
