Busy bee

These fingers have been a-workin'. I finally finished Little One' stocking. And just in the "Nick" of time (pun intended). My mom started a tradition decades ago. I don't think, while lovingly cutting, stitching, and piecing together those scraps of felt so many years ago, that she realized she would pass it down to her children's future families. But she did. Mama has always been a crafty thing, and our stockings are a perfect example. Each of her three daughters have taken on the task of creating stockings for those that have become a part of our family.

My stocking from childhood (the nativity is my favorite part!), Little One's, and Matt's

Growing up, I treasured the Christmas decor and knick knacks that came out from hiding in the attic. I eagerly awaited pulling out the stockings each year. Without a fireplace, mama would hang them from an old brass coat rack. Santa would just walk right through that front door, find the empty stockings and fill them with toys galore. And what he couldn't fit in them, he displayed beautifully around. Those are good memories. Precious to me, at least.

As enamored with my stocking as I was, I hope that Little One will enjoy hers as well. This represents many hours of labor. A minute here, an hour there, a stitch here and a sequin there. I enjoyed thinking of my precious girl peering in to see what Santa brought her. It warms my heart.

Despite the excitement of Santa and gifts, The Love of My Life and I have agreed that we want to prepare our children's hearts for the birth of Christ. While giving gifts will be highly anticipated, we seek to understand and teach the truth of the season. What a tremendous task it will be! How easily I get caught up in the frills and bows and lights.

Lord, may our hearts be ready to receive you. Come, baby Jesus!

I love hearing about other peoples Christmas Tradition. It is funny to me because my parents made little felt ornaments the first Christmas they were married. They have always been our favorite ornaments and we each have our own that we get to hang on the tree. When Bryan and I got married, my mom and I made felt stockings for us. Last year I surprised my parents by making ones for them. You just don't have any idea how much time each one takes till you have done one. Yours are SOOO CUTE!! Hope ya'll have a very Merry Christmas!!
