i know i've fallen off the face of the earth. it's been an entire week since i last posted. my apologies to those of you that expect a fun, exciting post every few days. the truth is, i'm lacking in the inspiration department and the funniest thing my students have done all week isn't even that funny (i had george winston's "december" cd playing softly in my room. one student asked when i was going to break out the fortune cookies because the music sounded like a chinese place...ha!).
if you weren't aware, we have entered the month of may. actually, we're a third of the way through. for teachers and parents, may is about the busiest darn month of the year. this may has been the busiest month of my life...three things:
1. the y: i'm turning over a new leaf. this might not be the best time to start this new lifestyle but it's better not to wait. trust me. my mirror at home doesn't show me what the mirrors at the polo outlet in lebanon, tn did. ugh. whose thighs have jumped shipped and taken up residence on mine? i actually did little leg exercises (in the truck!) for about thirty minutes while LOML drove us home. i've also stopped purchasing the inexpensive unhealthy stuff to stock our pantry. now you will find edamame, loads of fresh fruit, kashi cereal, weight control oatmeal, fish, shrimp, chicken, salad, nut crackers (a new obsession), and tons of veggies. this is an expensive change, but would be too expensive not to follow through.
2. sod: along with the new leaf i've turned over, sod literally is new leaves, er, blades...Love of My Life worked the hardest, but i did contribute, only AFTER getting home from an hour of cardio and weights. i wasn't all that much help; however, my knees are raw from scooting around, pushing the squares of grass together. laying sod is not my cup of tea. we have already enjoyed the new yard though. we ate dinner outside last night, sipping on vodka-tonics and feasting over the new digs. i'm thrilled. i will be dedicating an entire post to the yard here shortly.
3. yearbook: i've mentioned before that i am the sole responsible party for the yearbook at my little school. when the duty was handed over to me, we were one and half years behind deadlines. we are now current on payments and publishing pages. i have a staff of 10 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. they think they're doing me a favor by contributing their fabulous ideas (" mrs. yearbook, i have the best idea! why don't we each do a page simply on ourselves!" or my favorite, "let's do a couples page. i have a picture of so-and-so and so-and-so kissing. it would be perfect!") truly, truly, these students are too young to understand the documentation of the life of a school. they don't have the knowledge to contribute to the journalistic aspect of an annual, which in turn creates a lot of work for me. rather than thinking of fun blog posts, i've been proofreading pages, perusing other schools' yearbooks, and trying to teach my junior high staff the importance of starting a sentence with a capital letter. really?? considering i don't get so much as a stipend, this might be the death of me.
i'll start putting together some other posts. while i'm at it, i'll try to find a little inspiration... :)
