thrifty...not-so-thrifty...thrifty

with all this extra time over spring break, i decided to hit up the junior league thrift shop. often times i will buy old books here (10/$1.00 sometimes!), and occasionally have found the banana republic pant, limited skirt, brooks brothers iron free shirt, etc. well, i hit the mother of all things good on this particular trip. they were having a sale- all children's clothing $1.00. without a sale, their prices are a bit steep for a thrift store, but i'll take the dollar sale. many of you know that i have one niece, two nephews, and a nephew on the way. my eyes are always open for a good deal. this is what i found:

two pairs of darling smocked overalls, one smocked boy bubble, and yes, that is a little girl's north face jacket...total: $4.37. i'm shipping it to the deep south as soon as the post office opens on monday! be on the lookout, j!

another purchase i made this week wasn't such a good deal. i've never had good skin. in high school, i started going to the dermatologist out of embarrassment. i've tried it all- retin-a, benzoyle peroxide, purpose, cetaphil, aveeno, arbonne, proactiv, cortisone shots, even oral medications...short of acutane, there's not much more out there. my mom suggested trying erno laszlo's sea mud soap. she warned me of the cost...gulp. $39 for 6 oz of soap?? i ended up purchasing a "travel set" that wasn't quite as expensive...just enough to give me a testing period. i'll let you know.

and then back to thrifty again...LOML and i stopped at a hole in the wall antique store that i have been dying to check out. as i was perusing the goods, i found a herend piece. you might not know, but i am obsessed with herend. my mom has told me that even as a little girl, i have been mesmerized by their grandeur. we'd stop at a fancy store to pick up a wedding gift, i'd sneak a sugar cube from the silver service and then stare at the herend figures. i knew they were a "look-don't-touch" kind of deal. anyway, i asked the lady the price on this darling little bunny on a leaf place card holder- $15. $15? okay, twist my rubber arm. it's a deal. so i have a nice, new, thrifty little addition to my slowly growing collection.

here's to bargain hunting and bargain finding!!!
