It all started with a simple toilet repair. It ended in a complete overhaul of what we inherited when we moved in. And I am so pleased! It's really handy to have a husband that's a contractor. Be it a commercial contractor, he has "guys" that can help out in areas that aren't his expertise.
LOML is a hands on kinda guy. He can fix nearly anything. He can do all basic renovation work himself. He is talented and skilled and has a gift. He is also a perfectionist. And he did nearly the entire renovation himself. With his own hands. I feel especially loved when I see him take my ideas and turn them into reality.
When we bought our home in 2011, the bathrooms were immediately on the list to tackle. The half bath, most used bathroom, was first priority. It's small {read- tiny. 3ft x 6ft}. It had an entire wall covered with a mirror. Three little boys lived in this house before we did and I believe they learned how to tee-tee in that bathroom. Standing up. The discoloration of the walls was disturbing. The sandy colored hexagonal tile was original (from the 60's), stained grout and all. The sink console was too large. The lighting was bad. No towel bar, no toilet paper holder. Grimy granny-style lining in the cabinet.
And then came that little toilet repair that resulted in ripping out the sink and cabinet, removing the toilet, taking down wall paper, and taking that HUGE mirror off that wall. Glory hallelujah! It was more beautiful completely empty than my eyes could even take in.
Order of Operations:
demo
junction box install (for sconces flanking the mirror)
removal of moldy plaster wall that had been hidden with the mirror
removed vent cover and fan cover to make them line up (remember, he's a perfectionist)
removed caulk from wainscot...oh my goodness disgusting
re-caulked
sheetrock work on mirror wall (we traded the sink for this. sweet deal in my book)
tile install (we had a tile guy do this. Carrera Marble basketweave with black dot)
crown install
base mould install
paint...ceiling, walls, wainscot, trim (walls are BM's Edgecomb Gray, trim and wainscot are BM's Rockport Gray)
install sconcesinstall toilet
install faucet hardware and then sink (pedestal sink....LOML was so patient even after breaking off a pipe in the wall, re-creating threads on one pipe, cleaning the old stuff up, etc. this was not an easy install)
hang mirror
install toilet paper holderinstall towel bar
art??
I am still deciding on how to do art work. I used command hooks in an effort to do a gallery wall. While I liked how it turned out, I think the space is too small and it looks cluttered. Glad I used command hooks before putting holes in the wall!! Will be tweaking that.

It looks fabulous!!!
Awesome! What an improvement! Love the sconces and mirror! And that's the same sink that I have in my bathroom! You're so lucky to have a husband who can do reno work like this! And not only do it, but see it through till it's done and do it so beautifully! Would love to marry a man with these talents :)!
