Summer Reading

I've gotten a good bit of reading in this summer. Since Little One still takes two naps a day, she leaves me a chunk of time each day to invest myself in something other than chores.

Although I love a good fun read, I've spent my time digging a little deeper with the parenting books. I KNOW! Parenting books? How boring. But they aren't. Through these reads, I have moved past my bad attitude towards the monotony of my days. I've thought more about how I can love my husband well. I've learned a lot about my own sinfulness, and what I really never learned about the motives behind my sin. You mamas (or daddys) out there might want to pick these up:

The Mission of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson

Shepherding a Child's Heart by Tedd Tripp

Bringing Up Girls by James Dobson (Bringing up Boys is also available)

I also just finished Susanna Wesley, a biography. A woman who bore 19 children and still remained faithful to God...well, that's a hero!

Any suggestions for my next read?

Your sis recommended Redeeming Love to me. She's probably already made the same rec to you, but just in case she hasn't, it is fabulous!

Mmm....I am reading Mission of Motherhood right now! I'll have to check out the Sheparding a Child's Heart. My selfish reading is Karen Kingsbury. Redemption series is a must along with all of her other books! Miss you friend!

Yes, Counterfeit Gods by Tim Keller (just finished it) and then your birthday book that I'll be giving you, Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss. (Btw, you know Susannah WESLEY is one of our favorites!)

I'm reading Big Truths for Young Hearts now. Excellent, although my little hearts are still pretty little.

Keller is always a good go-to, but if you want to stay on the parenting path, consider:
+ How to Really Love Your Child by Ross Campbell
+ Grace-Based Parenting by Tim Kimmel
+ Raising a Modern-Day Princess by Pam Farrel (my next to-read book)
+ Your your strong hubby to read: Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters by Meeker (or your read it and highlight it so he'll focus on key points)

Remember to take notes, type 'em out and then share them here.

First of all, I'm thrilled that your internet is back!

Also, I'm delighted to know I have an envelope system and Dave Ramsey following blog friend.

I too have read mostly parenting/serious books this summer. It is just so great to get the encouragement and validation from wiser and more experienced Christian parents. Not boring AT ALL. I finished Bringing Up Boys and am in the middle of The Mission of Motherhood.

Real Love for Real Life is a great one (It's by Andi Ashworth). On my blog somewhere. Great book about caring for others, your home, and family. Beautifully written.
