As part of the Presbyterian Church of America, we believe in infant baptism. We believe it conveys the grace of God. We believe that even our children are born sinners and in need of salvation, extended to us ONLY through God's mercy and not our own merit.
I could almost hear God's laughter as Little One screamed through the sacrament. I had wanted so badly for everything to be perfect. And there she was, screaming louder than I've ever heard her. How humbling. I hope that just as she was screaming then, that she will also cry out to God for her salvation.
What wonderful encouragement it was to see the congregation stand and raise their right hands in a vow to help LOML and me raise Little One up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Afterwards, nearly 20 people joined us for a celebration lunch at our house. Yet another reminder of how many people are supporting us and love our little one. What a day to celebrate our covenant child!
*so sad that the pics seem to be afterthoughts (a family picture long after it should have been taken, the cake with a slice cut already...). oh well. more to come on the gown. It deserves its own post! :)
