How to get rid of furniture that you hate

The Love of My Life and I have been working on the nursery...just a little. The soon-to-be baby's room is our former office/man room. Let me paint the picture for you: HUGE maple desk, leather desk chair, air mattress on a bed frame (we've had multiple guests at once..you have to be creative here), deer mount, duck mount, closet full of hunting garb, LOML's shoes, and a bow.

Marrying an avid hunter allowed me to inherit some fine decorative pieces- mounted ducks and deer heads. I banished the majority to the man room, but seeing as a deer peering into my baby's crib is simply unacceptable, those had to hit the road. LOML's mom graciously accepted these lovelies. Dead animals gone- check.

Somehow we ended up with most hideous desk you've ever seen. It weighs like 500 pounds because even with the strength of a buddy (he's pretty buff), LOML (also pretty buff) about had another hernia moving the thing into the house in the first place. I don't care that it's a Baker. It's ugly, it's heavy, and it's huge. I've hated that piece of furniture since first laying eyes on it. And now, it finally gets the boot. I spent Sunday afternoon running around town looking for storage solutions. We are turning an old armoire into a home office in the kitchen. We're trying to decided which of Love of My Life's friends owes him most...they'll be helping take that beast to Goodwill. That's a $60 deduction. Cha-ching.

Next up: drapery pockets for the windows and installing crown. I'm so fortunate to be married to my own Bob Vila- LOML is undertaking all the projects himself. And after that, we've got to re-vamp the closet. I spied this lovely picture in the new Domino. I haven't really relayed the message to the husband yet, but I would like to do some type of wallpaper or bright paint color on the back wall to add a little depth. Got that, sweetheart? I sure do love you.

Never fear, I'll keep you posted on the progress.
