a summary will have to suffice. we bought our house a year and half ago. it's changed a lot. joyce (the former resident) tried to burn the place down twice but was only successful once (she lived here before us, may she now rest in peace. she's still around though...i swear she stole my sarah mclaughlin cd. i guess i should mention that she died of smoke inhalation...in our house. ok, there, it's out. good thing i'm not superstitious). anyway, we made our purchase in the middle of interior renovations to repair the fire and smoke damage. we really found a gem in our little abode...totally new interior (except for the plaster in the bedrooms), fresh paint (the only thing we got to pick out were paint colors), brand spankin new kitchen appliances, granite countertops, etc. truly an incredible first house. anyway, we've done a few projects to the inside (pulled wire for a chandelier in the dining room, built built-in bookshelves in the den, fell through the ceiling and fixed that (whew), and a few other odds and ends). the real labor has been outside. although quite striking, the yellow and maroon color combo didn't suite my fancy. we slurried (rubbed tinted mortar over the brick), LOML built these awesome shutters, we re-faced the front porch, hung a swing in the big front oak tree, landscaped, and laid sod. did i mention we did ALL the work ourselves, except for the slurry- alfredo helped us out there. yes, alfredo, as in the noodles...anyway, the whole point of this post was to give you an idea of where we live...and to brag on my amazing and handy husband.
we've removed the glass security door and painted the wooden one to match the shutters. i'm hoping to replace the white grate over the front window with a copper one, switch the gutters for copper too, and also replace the door with a wooden one with beveled glass...ahhh, perfect.
this is my best garage sale purchase ever (however, it doesn't come close to the seven jeans i found at tjmaxx for $10). LOML had to cut the hole and pull the wires for this thing. lucky for him, my arms are skinny- he had me elbow deep in sheet rock, trying to get that darn fish through the wall (that's how you pull wire...i've learned a lot).
LOML working on the book shelves. he's stinkin amazing.
one side, finished. the other is too but i don't have a picture...they're pretty awesome. and will look even better when we get the chicken wire doors done, right love?
now that duck season is over, as of yesterday, and having a full month before turkey season starts, new projects are about to begin. i'll keep you posted...
